The Lady Vanishes

The magician, she went about her business
Making birds and flowers and rabbits appear
She held the audience in her palm spellbound
Made it seem like anything could happen here

What kind of magic is in the air
About a feeling, I can never be sure
Still, it’s hard to believe in pure reason
After all, my senses have lied before

And then the lady vanishes
A puff of smoke and she disappears in thin air
And then the lady vanishes
The last time I looked, she was standing right there

She was more than even I could imagine
Hard to believe, but, then so easy to see
We danced away only for a short time
But long enough for a memory

She was no stranger to a dream
But in reality there was no small confusion
As she made her way across the stage
Preparing for the best and last illusion

And then the lady vanishes
The last time I looked, she was standing right there
And then the lady vanishes
Just at the moment when I had started to care

Am I doomed to repeat the situation?
Was there something then, that I forgot to do?
Alive only in my imagination
Making it hard for me to get close to you

What kind of magic is in the air
About a feeling, I can never be sure
Still, it’s hard to believe in pure reason
After all, my senses have lied before

And then the lady vanishes
All it takes is a second and a dream is blown apart
And then the lady vanishes
Right when you appear with a cure for a broken heart.
